At the beginning of stage one we were introduced to life drawing which I had never done before, I found that through each session I could see my work slowly progressing and I hope to continue life drawing sessions in the future to further strengthen my drawing and perspective skills. This will help me in my design/3D work.

I found the media project difficult from the start as I wasn’t used to open briefs, however, once I had started to generate ideas I found that the open brief gave me more freedom to explore different areas of media. I really enjoyed playing around with distortion and I am happy with the effect of my final images. Although media probably isn’t an area I am most interested in I will definitely use methods that I used in this project throughout my work.

Unlike the media project the art brief gave me more of a solid starting point as I could use the method of chance. The workshops that I did during the art project also helped me be more experimental with my ideas and introduced new materials to my work. Relating my ideas to make-up gave me more to add to my work, I could use my knowledge of materials and the process to support my work. Overall I enjoyed the art project more than the media work as I found more an interest and I was more confutable with the direction I was going in from the beginning.

The design project for me was the most interesting, although the brief was the most ‘controlled’ in what I was making I still had a lot of room to create something that I was interested in. Again for this work I managed to relate it to make-up which added more context for me and allowed more information to be added to the design. Overall, I think I could have managed my time better and spent more time on developing my ideas and exploring different materials as I feel towards the end of the project I was rushing slightly which maybe effected my final outcome and quality of my work.

Over the week of workshops I discovered new methods through casting which I had never thought of before but I could see myself using in future work. I also enjoyed my portrait photography workshop where I was introduced to the studio equipment and was shown what makes a photograph visually pleasing, again this will be useful for photographing my 3D work in the future. The model making and make-up workshops were also really interesting as these are the degree courses that I am considering for next year. I found out a lot of information about the model making course which will defiantly help me in making my decision for next year.

Overall I have found stage one of the foundation course really useful as I have gotten a taster of lots of different areas which I wouldn’t have tried otherwise and it has introduced me to many new methods which I will definitely be using in future work.
